CHEERGYM's TEXAS THUNDER was the very first all-star cheerleading program in the Richmond/Rosenberg area started by Stephanie Hoot-Whiddon in 1996 with her first team, Texas Twisters. Texas Twisters evolved into TEXAS THUNDER and over the last 14 years, has grown into one of the most competitive and elite programs in the state. TEXAS THUNDER has gained a reputation as being one of the most respectful and sportsmanlike teams in the sport. We take pride not only in our success but also in our sportsmanship!
In 2007, Coach Stephanie Hoot-Whiddon, was chosen by United Cheer and Texas Cheerleader Magazine for the first ever Team Excellence Award. The Team Excellence Award is awarded to the head coach of the gym whose teams exhibit good sportsmanship, team unity, integrity, competitive spirit and desire to be the best in every way. In 2009, Cheergym's TEXAS THUNDER won both the American Championships AND Cheer America Program Award for receiving the highest total of scores for each team in the small gym division. In 2010, Texas Thunder Crimson received the American Championships ONLY Judges Choice Award for Skills and Execution.
All-Star cheerleading is a fast growing sport that not only builds incredible strength and skill but also instills the values of responsibility, disciplined sportsmanship and self-confidence. Even more exciting is that it becomes a means by which to go exciting places, learn the importance of working as a team and making new friendships that last a lifetime.
